Why does this website suck?

All we really want is to fix lunch debt.

We wasted months worrying about looking legitimate and/or cool.

So let’s feed kids now and make things pretty later.

Okay, but what is lunch debt?

Lunch debt refers to the money owed to schools for the meals provided to students/families who were supposed to pay for that meal but could not.

Many schools turn to cruel, humiliating tactics to shame or scare student families into paying the lunch debt.

Often, kids get a debtors lunch of bread and cheese.

A bright red handstamp to wear home; a pinned note on the back of their shirt.

Parents/guardians get sent to collections agencies.

Even in school districts where “shaming” is prohibited, administration often resorts to indirect methods of shaming, such as disallowing participation in field trips or extracurriculars, or being forced to work for a meal.

We must do better for our collective children.

What actions can I take?

So glad you asked. I’m working on the list.

“Can I just give LDBS money and let you do the work?”

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. It’s just as valid, important, and appreciated as if you called every school district in the nation yourself.
